What is hysteroscopic surgery?

Hysteroscopic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery in which no incision is given. Rather the natural passage through the cervix is used to introduce the hysteroscope into the uterus for both diagnosis as well as treatment of uterus conditions.

This service caters to women with urology problems and pelvic floor defects. Though not life threatening these problems severely impair quality of life. Traditional surgeries for these have been found to have many limitations and are being increasingly replaced with more scientific and physiological procedures. We provide complete diagnostic evaluation for problems related to the vagina, uterus, bladder, urethra and ractum with specialization in the treatment of

  • Urinary leak or incontinence (Stress, urge or mixed)
  • Pelvic organ prolapse (uterus, bladder or the ractum)
  • Difficulty in voiding or emptying the bladder or bowel
  • Chronic pelvic pain (including interstitial cystitis)
  • Others

Both surgical and nonsurgical options are explored to customize the treatment to the patients need.

The gynecology Department has special clinic for adolescents & post menopausal women, as their problems are different and they need special attention. Adolescent clinic It looks at puberty and related problems eg menstrual cramps, irregular cycles & teenage pregnancies.

Sperm Processing for Intrauterine Insemination (I.U.I.) :

The semen sample is processed by washing, centrifugation and migration. A suitable culture medium is used The final migration is done under stringent culture conditions using CO2 incubation. The spermatozoa thus obtained are free of debris & bacteria, are energetic and improve the success rate of intrauterine insemination. (We have special room for semen collection.) Men with slightly compromised semen quality could benefit from I.U.I. Donor Insemination Programme, Semen Cryopreservation and banking Our sperm bank uses donor semen, which has undergone stringent evaluation. The donors are tasted for HIV, Hepatitis, VDRL and gonorrhoea. Besides the semen quality is ensured by following the W.H.O. criteria. We routinely freeze the samples of the patients for IVF as husband may not be able to give the sample on that day. The patient undergoing treatment for cancer, radiotherapy can also use our facilities.

Embryo Cryopreservation :

Treatment with medicines for ovulation induction in ART produces many oocytes. We cryopreserve the extra embryos for the future use. All embryos are coded, labeled and stored in special containers to maintain their identity.

Donor Oocyte Programm :

We have an ongoing programme for the women with premature ovarian failure, surgical or induced menopause.

Counselling :

Infertility and its treatment cause significant stress on the couple and Their family members. Before the actual treatment being we encourage the couples to talk about the stress factors and interact with ethical committee to discuss freely the necessary issues.

Future :

We propose to start in near future the facilities like genetic testing, individual chromosomal testing, tests involving P.C.R., F.L.S.H. and Preimplantation genetic diagnosis.
